podcast that goes way beyond just training and nutrition.

0:13.5

I'm your host, Cody McBroom, and today we have a reverse diet FAQ.

0:18.6

So I posted on Instagram and gathered as many questions as I could. There was

0:22.2

quite a few responses, which I was expecting, because this is a really popular topic and a very

0:27.7

not only like confusing topic to a lot of people, but I would say misguided topic because

0:34.6

there's so much information out there now based on reverse dieting.

0:38.9

And the truth is, is that reverse dieting itself doesn't really have much, if any,

0:44.3

literature on it at all. We have metabolic adaptation research. We have dieting and fat loss research.

0:50.3

We have diet break research. We have refeed research. We have hunger hormone research, whether we're talking about the metabolism itself or leptin and grelin or we're talking about hormones that are influenced by metabolic processes like thyroid cortisol, testosterone, all these different things that happen to be adapted or create or have differences in them, adaptations occurring to them

1:14.0

when we're going through a diet. And we kind of have to piece from all these things and

1:18.0

determine what we believe is going on with reverse dieting and most importantly what we see

1:22.1

in the actual practice. But because of this, there is a lot of opinions on how reverse dieting should be done.

1:29.0

So it can be misguided because there's a lot of people out there that just kind of talk from

1:32.5

strictly experience or biased beliefs without using the literature in the right way. So what I try

1:38.3

to do is really understand the literature on all these surrounding topics that are directly correlated

1:43.5

or influenced by or with,

1:47.7

or I'm sorry, they're either influenced by reverse dieting or they directly influence

1:52.5

reverse dieting.

1:54.1

But I try to take all that and then I make a better interpretation in teaching curriculum

2:00.1

or teaching guidance, quote unquote, on what I think about

2:04.5

reverse dieting and how I think it should be handled and done. So that's what I'm going to do today.
