Lions 24-7 site. Preview, likely, the toughest opponent on paper for Illinois football. And that's a

Penn State team that thinks it can be the dark horse.

And I don't even know how much dark horse is because they won 11 and 2 last year.

And they returned a very, very strong team.

But Penn State, the Big Ten opener for Illinois on September 16th.

What is James Franklin bringing to Illinois?

Is this his best team yet in Happy Valley?

We'll break that down.

And we look to Maryland.

Familiar name, of course, Mike Loxley came into Illinois two years ago and escaped with a win.

That's a game that made a huge difference of whether Illinois, well, they didn't make a bowl game in Breit

Bielma's first season.

They had that one in hand up 17, 10, to 5 minutes left.

Found a way to lose by three points in regulation.

So looking to get some payback for that one, but Maryland, quietly, good last two seasons.

Not great.

Not great in the Big Ten, but they've done well in the non-conference,

and they have a schedule set up where they can make some noise a little bit, kind of the popular pick outside of the top three in the Big Ten East.
