Hi guys, welcome back to It's Metang's Happy Friday. I hope everyone had a fantastic week. I had a very busy week in New York.

0:11.0

I am a little bit tired, but that's okay.

0:14.0

It's not even part of my brand to talk about that. And I'm going to stop talking about it again. And no, I don't have COVID. I took 400 tests because I did Drew Barrymore's podcast.

0:23.0

And I honestly thought I had it because I was like, I haven't felt like this since I had mono, but nope, just tired. Those freaking red eyes, man. Okay.

0:33.0

Today's episode five ways or five things to enjoy about being single.

0:43.0

And I've been thinking about this episode for about three days and how I prepare for an episode is I have a note in my phone and I just sketch it out and I write down all the points I want to hit. I write some examples.

0:54.0

And with this episode, I kept finding myself qualifying even to myself, even in my own brain, because I was so worried at the response that it might elicit from some people.

1:09.0

And then I thought of the best metaphor to help me explain how I feel about single versus relationships and how I want all of you to think about it, because I had this idea.

1:23.0

And I started writing down all the things that I love about being single. And then I thought, oh my God, people who are in relationships or like relationship people, you know, you have some people friends who like always have a boyfriend.

1:35.0

And I thought they're going to think that this is against them. And it's just not true. And I think that I think that, you know, I'm actually in a relationship right now. But if I'm being honest with you guys, I love being single.

1:53.0

I was just recently, but for a long time, I was worried to say that out loud, because I thought maybe it would negatively manifest in like not finding a relationship. And then I realized that actually all it is is a deep gratitude and appreciation for different chapters of your life.

2:13.0

That's what I have. I not to do it my own horn. I have a pretty good gratitude practice. And I realized that that's what it is amongst other things that I'm going to get into. And I think that it's scary, especially for women to say out loud, I like being single.

2:31.0

And this comes across as, you know, you think of Samantha Jones, not that that's a bad thing. You think of she's too independent. She's defensive. She's lying. You know, I don't know. But you can't deny that on the whole when a woman says publicly, yeah, I love being single.

2:49.0

And last time you've heard a female celebrity say that that hasn't been met with, you know, negativity or ooh, she's, you know, she can't find a man, whatever, whatever. And I could go on and on about the double standards, but that's really not what this episode is about.

3:03.0

So like I said, it's when I say I love being single, it's, and it wasn't always that way, by the way, definitely not only really in the past two or three years. So it is a muscle that you have to work. When I say I love being single, it's a profound gratitude for every stage of life. And that's the gift, which I wish to bestow upon you guys.

3:25.0

And some people might find this defensive, but I happen to know that if I became single tomorrow, yeah, I would be really heartbroken, but I would be fine. And I love that about myself. And I love that that foundation of self love and knowing that I can make myself happy.

3:43.0

Actually, it's funny because I was just doing an AMA and someone asked, do you think of having a boyfriend makes you happier? And I said for some, yes, for me, no, it's, he makes my life more joyful. He makes me, I'm obsessed, I'm completely obsessed with him. But my happiness is pretty the same.

4:04.0

And again, that's my personal experience. And I had a lot of really, really interesting DMs responding to say, yeah, this is the way I feel too. And for a long time, I thought there was something wrong with me.

4:16.0

And there's nothing wrong with you if you're that way. And there's nothing wrong with you if you are a lot happier with a boyfriend.

4:23.0

I, I like being single because well, let me back up. I think it's knowing that I can make myself happy. It's like this insurance policy. It's like the gift that keeps on giving.

4:36.0

And it also means that I never settle for anything less than I deserve and that I don't put my happiness. I don't hinge it on being part of a pair.

4:46.0

And again, I want to say this isn't an us versus them thing. It's funny because while I'm talking about this, I'm still kind of identifying as a single person, which is just really funny that I kind of is my default in my brain.
