Summary

This episode is our monthly research review podcast! But again, this month, we decided to spin it and make it a Q&A style discussion. We dive into how to periodize for hypertrophy (or if it even matters), cortisol's effect on fat loss, and how much protein you can actually absorb per sitting.

Welcome to the tailored life podcast, the one and only fitness and nutrition podcast that goes way beyond just training and nutrition.

0:14.3

I'm your host, Cody McBroom, and today I have our chief science officer from tailored coaching method on the show to do a research review

0:21.8

slash Q&A. So we bring Dr. Brandon Roberts on the show once again, and we're going to

0:26.9

dive into three specific topics this week. So what we've been doing lately with these research

0:30.5

review podcasts and blog, so if you want to check out the blog, the article version, there is a link

0:35.3

for that in the description of this show. But what we've

0:38.2

been doing lately is instead of doing a research review on a couple studies and going really,

0:42.3

really in depth, we've been choosing three to five questions and still going pretty deep into

0:47.6

the answers behind the questions, but bringing up research to back up our claims. And then it's a

0:52.3

good chance for me to jump in and share more of my experience on the topic and what I've seen in the coaching setting as well, which is fun

0:58.8

for me. It's a little more collaborative, which I really enjoy. Today we dive into whether or not

1:03.5

periodization matters for hypertrophy and Brandon breaks down all the research pertaining to

1:07.6

periodization outside of just strength and sports, but really more

1:11.1

focused on bodybuilding, building muscle, fat loss, that kind of training.

1:15.0

We're going to dive into how much protein you can actually absorb at once.

1:18.6

And if there's an optimal amount of protein you need to eat per meal, which is a topic that's

1:23.2

been debated over the years.

1:24.3

And it's always been a really popular discussion because there was a lot

1:28.9

of myths pertaining to you can only absorb so much protein per sitting and then people realize

1:33.8

you can actually absorb quite a bit it just kind of weights in your gut and then how does that pan out

1:39.2

how much do you need some people say too little some people say too much so this is a constant

1:43.2

argument in the industry which it was really cool here in his answer
