I was involved in Orthodox Judaism at a young age. I adopted it when I was about 13 or 14.

And it really had a lot of meaning to me. I was in a really horrible neighborhood and had some terrible influences on me.

It really saved me from some darkness.

And I was very observant.

I used to go to temple and eat kosher food and all that.

My mother said I was 60 before I was 18. Like a little old man.

And after a while it kind of ran its course.

And I wasn't inspired anymore and I was doing things kind of out of root and obligation.

And one day there was a fast day,

when I was supposed to eat.

And I was sitting alone at home one evening,

and I was really hungry.

Mm, take.

And I didn't really know why I was fasting.

The basic reason was that somebody told me to,

and I was afraid I'd go to hell if I didn't do it properly.

And this, this really... I'd go to hell if I didn't do it properly.

And this realization gobs smack me,

I like that word, a gobs smack of the realization

that doing a religious act out of fear was not a reason to do a religious act.
