A lot of people are incorrectly framing Elon Musk purchasing Twitter as being left versus right. I strongly disagree. This is about the richest man in the world, who was born into Apartheid and raised by a white nationalist, wanting to be sure that powerful white men can say whatever they want - about whoever they want - without consequence.

As I'm recording this, Word has been released that Twitter and the richest man in the world, Elon Musk,

It's not that I have a huge concern with someone taking Twitter private, per se.

Let me tell you why I'm particularly concerned with what I think Elon Musk is going to do with the company.

A few weeks ago, the richest man in the world, Elon Musk, who runs the company Tesla and also SpaceX and other companies,

made it clear that he wanted to purchase Twitter. Before it was known to the public that he wanted to purchase Twitter,

he started tweeting multiple statements online about things he would like to change about Twitter.

Even when he spoke at the TEDx conference in Vancouver, he called himself what he is calling a free speech absolutist,

which for many of us is actually a dangerous term and then he leaned in to say what he meant.

He basically said to him, a free speech absolutist is someone that is fine with offensive things being said about themselves.

What he is saying there is he wants to create a space and he continues to talk about this, a space on Twitter,

where anything can be said to end about anybody. That's what a free speech absolutist is,

where any type of information, be it misinformation, be it harassment, be it hate speech, or anything in between is allowed.

And that is extremely dangerous.

I have to say, as somebody who has been targeted and harassed by people on Twitter for the past 10 years,

many of them who have been completely banned from the platform,

the notion that it will be now purchased and managed by someone was taking the company private,

who plans to then allow any kind of speech to take place there, I am gravely concerned about what that might mean.
