Today we'll be telling the story of St Felix of Nola,

whose feast is celebrated on January 14th.

Felix was born in Nola, Italy early in the third century. The exact date is unknown.

His father was a retired soldier. After his father's death, Felix was free to become

a religious. He sold all of his inheritance and gave the money to the poor. He then left to work with

St. Maximus of Nola who was the Bishop.

During the persecution of the Roman Emperor D.C.S.

St. Maximus fled to the mountains to hide.

Felix wasn't so lucky, and instead was captured and beaten for his faith before being locked in jail.

Miraculously an angel came and freed him from prison so that he could go up to the mountains and help St. Maximus.

After the persecution was over, both men returned to Nola.

St Felix lived the rest of his life as a priest and farmer and gave the money he earned to the poor.

St Felix of Nola is the patron saint of spiders and the keepers of spiders. St. Felix shivered on the cold stone floor of the Roman prison. He hadn't been able to flee when the soldiers came into town hunting for Christians.
