| 0:00.0 | Hello and welcome to episode 534 of the Money to the Masses podcast with your resident expert as always Damien Fay and me, Andy Leeks. |
| 0:08.6 | Now Damien, normally I would say at this point, how are you doing? |
| 0:11.4 | But I feel like you need to ask how I'm doing. |
| 0:14.0 | We do, Andy, because anybody who has been watching the news will have seen that a particular part of Kent made the news because |
| 0:23.4 | of a lack of water and it's not funny but the reason I'm laughing because it impacted Andy so |
| 0:29.0 | Andy how are you doing and have you got water yeah so we finally got water today today we're |
| 0:35.3 | recording this sort of midweek and we've had problems since |
| 0:38.9 | last Friday. So we've had five days of intermittent water coming on and coming off and low pressure, |
| 0:44.6 | long periods where we had no water at all. Now for anyone who's got two teenagers and especially |
| 0:50.6 | teenage girls who have long hair that they need to seem to wash every single day, |
| 0:55.0 | it's been a bit of a nightmare. And I have to say, it wasn't lost on me, Damien, when I was driving |
| 0:59.6 | through floodwater in the pouring rain to go and collect bottled water from the water station. |
| 1:05.8 | So, yeah, a mad few days, but we've got through it. But do you know what? What I'm going to take |
| 1:10.0 | from this is the community spirit. What I've seen, I live in a very small village and there are quite a lot of people |
| 1:16.1 | who either don't have a car or perhaps they're elderly or disabled and they put a call out and |
| 1:22.3 | people come running to help out. And I think that's a really nice takeaway from what has been |
| 1:26.8 | a pretty dire few days. |
| 1:28.3 | And it isn't just you or your villies. There's tens of thousands of homes in the southeast |
| 1:33.3 | that have had no water because of burst pipes and a range of other factors which are the |
| 1:40.3 | fault seemingly of the water company and people are having to go to these water stations to get bottled water and then getting limited amounts of that water as well. |
| 1:50.7 | But this isn't new to you, is it? I mean, this is something that seems to be frequently happening in the part of Ken that you live in, where we're saying come join civilization, whether it's internet, electricity, water, your utilities seem to be fairly optional down that part of the country. |
| 2:05.4 | The problem is I do live in a new build and we're having obviously this mass building that's going on in this country where they're trying to get lots of new houses for people. |
