Hello and welcome to episode 533 of the Moneyton Masters podcast with your resident expert. As always,

0:06.1

Daniel Faye and me, Andy Leakes. Daniel, welcome back. How are you doing? I'm good, Andy, and I just want to

0:11.6

mention, before we move on, thank you to everybody who left comments on the last episode of the podcast.

0:18.6

And there's been many people that have wished Justin well. So

0:23.2

if you hadn't listened to the most recent podcast, Justin's been unwell. So Justin, who is my

0:27.7

twin and one of the other key members of the main to the message team had been unwell and been in

0:32.8

hospital for a period of time. And he noted that no one wished him well, despite me getting well wishes when I just had a cold. So lots of you wrote on our Spotify feed for Justin, and we passed that on to him. And it made his day. So I just want to thank everybody who did that. Yeah, and it was so lovely to see Justin's comments. He was genuinely made up. So we are in the new year. We did the New Year podcast last week, of course, but I just wanted to update you, Damien, on how I'm doing with the new year. I've made a few resolutions myself. And I'm pleased to say I'm already saving a fair amount via a savings challenge, which I'm sure we'll talk a little bit more about later. But the other thing I've decided I'm doing this year, Damien, is I'm going to say yes more. You ever seen

1:11.1

that film, The Yes Man? I've decided 2026 is a year where Andy's going to be a bit more positive and I'm going to say yes. I'm one of these people who kind of is quite grumpy really in the background and likes to stay in and not do much. Andy, I think it's called Middle Age. I think it's happening to all of us. So I think that's a good New Year's resolution. I think mine should be to go to what's Tottenham Hotspur less often. I think it's being a completely miserable couple of months really. Probably longer than that. And the new year hasn't exactly started well for anybody who's supporting Tottenham Hotspur, so maybe I should be my New Year's

1:44.5

resolutions. But on the theme of New Year's resolutions, it's often the time where people

1:50.4

will look at their money and make resolutions about trying to improve their finances. So last year on

1:55.3

the podcast, we looked at the important task that you should undertake to get off to a good start for the new year. Now, I'm not going

2:02.5

to do that again or something similar. We can come back to that as the month goes on when it comes

2:08.6

to tasks that can help improve your personal finances. So what I want to do instead is do something

2:14.7

that is a bit more psychological. So looking at our behaviours and habits and

2:20.2

how we can try and change those, so then we've got more chance of keeping to any financial

2:26.2

resolutions that we may make, but also be able to improve our finances going forward. So I'm going to

2:32.9

do a piece on resolutions and habit building,

2:36.6

plus some new research that shed light on just how difficult it can be when it comes to trying

2:42.9

to change your behaviour in the new year. But hopefully it will allow you to be a little bit kinder to

2:47.0

yourself when you do struggle to keep up with those resolutions that you make. So leading on from

2:53.1

that, last year I did a piece on how much cashback I'd managed to accrue in the previous year,

2:59.9

plus the money I'd saved via roundups. And at that point, it was over £1,000. I promised to do an
