Summary

During difficult seasons, we can be tempted to turn back to our old ways of numbing pain. We can begin to question if God is actually good and if he cares about us. But these are not the times to forfeit what we have with Him. These are the times to struggle and weep with our faces pointed toward the Lord, trusting who he is when we can’t see what lies ahead. I can hardly wait to start studying the book of Ruth with you in today’s Cultivate podcast. As we look at the first chapter, we’ll see three women showing us different ways of weeping. One goes back to her old life, the second turns toward God with bitterness, and the third turns toward Him with total commitment amidst the unknown. Her story–the story of Ruth–is a beautiful picture of how God is not limited by our impossible circumstances. Weeping will come for all of us, but the direction we weep in is what makes the difference. I hope this episode will encourage you to turn toward Jesus, continuing with the things he has called you to do. There will be a day that your tears will reap shouts of joy (Ps. 126:5-6). 1:07.1	I have this table runner down the middle of the table, and it is, it's gray, it's got a little
1:13.4	orange in it. It's very fall, but kind of in a modern, classic way. I don't really know how to
1:19.1	describe it. I should take a picture of this for everybody. But I love switching out the table
1:23.5	runners at the different seasons because it just is a simple thing and gives it all a really
1:28.7	different feel. And so today I'm feeling the fall November vibe. And I hope that is happening
1:34.9	for you at your house. You can tell I have absolutely nothing going on that I am sitting here
1:41.3	talking about table runners. But I want you to get a visual. I want you to feel
1:45.9	the vibe and to be able to sit down and, oh my goodness, we have an awesome passage of scripture

1:57.0	today is a really exciting day. For me, today is the release of a Bible study. I wrote
2:03.8	on the book of Ruth, and it is called Ruth, Lost, Love, and Legacy. And it's really fun for me,
2:09.7	because a lot of times, whether it's a book or a Bible study, oftentimes I am working on that
2:17.0	for two years before it ever comes out. And so this was a
2:21.9	long process. I also had the privilege of adding teaching videos to this Bible study. The first
