Let's flip to the defensive side of the football with our position previews and focus on the defensive front.

This has kind of changed a little bit. We used to just call it the defensive line, but now Illinois has a multiple defense, Joey, that has outside linebackers that kind of change what

they do. They're kind of amoebas and change their shape. They put their hand on the ground.

They stand up, all those different things. But really, they're mostly defensive ends, but they just

have an outside lineback because they're more versatile. But Ryan Walter's scheme, certainly on

defense, was very, very successful last year and a couple of very important pieces return up front,

but Illinois also has some big shoes to fill both on the defensive line and especially

at outside linebacker.

So, Joey, this is an intriguing group because last year with this new scheme, they certainly

had a lot of success, right?

They got after it, rushed the passer really well,

a top half group there, pretty good run defense as well. But you got a couple of pieces you need

to replace in Roderick, Perry and Nosegard and Owen Carney and Isaiah Gay at outside

linebacker, but you returned some key pieces as well.
