Summary
Karl Meltzer just won his record 41st 100-mile race in October at the Cloudsplitter 100- the most of any other person! He joins The Nation with Andy Jones-Wilkins to discuss one way to potentially shave HOURS off your next 100-mile finish. His philosophy: KISS- Keep is Stupid Simple. Trail running is a very simple and primitive sport that we might be making way too complicated and difficult. Making choices in your gear, drop bags, crew, pacing and aid station management can shave hour(s) off your time. It might make it a more enjoyable experience too.

| 0:00.0 | Lakey poles, you can see them everywhere. We have UTMB coming up. We have Tour de Jean's coming up and all those guys have poles. |
| 0:12.0 | And they're Lakey poles because they're the best of the strongest and they're lightweight. Scott, you just got the spec sheet out on the new poles that you have and what do they weigh? |
| 0:21.0 | The new micro trail race. It's like you, it takes weight away from you. There are only just over six ounces for you metric people. That's 175 grams. |
| 0:32.0 | It makes the excuse of carrying extra weight just not an excuse. |
| 0:37.0 | And do not confuse the weight with strength because Lakey number one engineers and their design provide great, great stability and durability. |
| 0:48.0 | I was just running a mind the other day and I just, I like playing with the trigger shark. I can get in and out of those just quick, quick, quick. I'm probably the fastest one on the trails right now. |
| 0:59.0 | Scott, work on being the fastest one up the trail, not in and out of the poles. Go to our partners page or to Lakey.com and get 20% off a checkout with the code TRN2019. |
| 1:12.0 | Pathprojects.com. Hey, Scott, you just put on a new pair of Torch FX bass liners. |
| 1:20.0 | These guys are always innovating and they have a new bass liner that is made for heat management. So on those hotter runs when it's hotter outside, it has something called the flow through FX fabric. |
| 1:35.0 | What it is, it's a fabric that wicks away moisture, but it also has these tiny little holes that help ventilate everything down there. |
| 1:43.0 | Well, you've got to, you've got to move air and you have to get rid of moisture and you can't do that unless you have these kind of holes because it really helps when it's hot out. |
| 1:51.0 | Go to pathprojects.com or you can go to our partners page and link on over to path projects. |
| 1:57.0 | All right, are we ready? Yeah. You're recording this, aren't you free, man? |
| 2:01.0 | Get everything. All right, are we ready? Yeah. Welcome back to another edition of Trail Runnation. Hey, I just said that wrong. |
| 2:07.0 | Yeah, but no, there was different. I like it. Let's do it. Let's stick with that. |
| 2:10.0 | My name is Scott Warren and I'm Don Freeman and Andy Jones Wilkins and Andy has a friend with us today, right? |
| 2:18.0 | Yes. Yes. Indeed. After a few months away, I'm thrilled to be back on the podcast and we are thrilled to welcome Carl Meltzer onto the podcast today. |
| 2:28.0 | Carl has just his fresh off another 100 mile win, his 41st out here in the eastern half of the country. Carl, how are you doing? |
| 2:40.0 | I'm doing good. Andy just sitting on the couch now as you can see in the video here. He looks more, he looks the most relaxed of all of us. He's just laying back and enjoying it. |
| 2:52.0 | What's the call? Carl, what was the, what was the race that you just ran? |
| 2:57.0 | It was Clouds Flutter 100. He was in northern Virginia, 24,000 feet of climb, tick classic Virginia single track as you know, Andy. |
| 3:07.0 | I went and blinds, no crew, no course, no pacer, and very little stuff started about the race and about how much scrap and stuff people have at races. |
