Summary
Y’all. You know I love year-long experiments.
- In 2013, I tried to get 100 rejection letters.
- In 2015, I did a #postitdaily project on Instagram.
- In 2017, I experimented with quitting booze for a year. (And guess who celebrated her 7-year sober anniversary on January 4!?)
- In 2018, I did a #yearoftruthtalks on IG.
- In 2022, I gave myself a Year of No.
- And last year, I did Revival.
The goals of my Revival experiment were to:
- release the rules about how things should be done
- reclaim how I want to show up to everything—my work, my life, my family, my self...all of it
- reconnect with my wildly-creative self and live the experiment out loud with radical self-belief, delight, curiosity, and intuition as my guides.
Soooo, did I do it? Short answer: yes. But there are A LOT of asterisks!
Listen in to hear about all those asterisks, get into why it worked, and what lessons I’m bringing into 2024!
Because we know there's something more to life than the perfectly coiffed, perfectly creative version of ourselves we think we need to be.

| 0:00.0 | Hey friends. Okay, this was a completely unplanned podcast, but I started writing a newsletter for today to answer the question, my 2023 revival experiment dot, dot, dot, did it work? Because as some of you all know, in 2023, I did a whole experiment. I'll tell you about it. |
| 0:23.5 | And I think it's interesting to go back and reconsider if something worked. So I am currently |
| 0:30.0 | 556 words into my newsletter and like, I'm not even close, y'all, to tell them this story. |
| 0:37.2 | So I figured as I was writing this, I was like, this is actually a newsletter that should be a podcast instead of an meeting that should be an email. And so I was like, let's just record a podcast. So let me set the stage for you of where I was in the beginning of 2023. |
| 0:57.0 | So like, and actually, let's go back a little bit farther because my vision for my revival experiment actually started back in October, November of 2022. |
| 1:08.6 | Now, if you've been around these parts for a while, you know that I love |
| 1:13.6 | year-long experiments. They are like my favorite. So these started all the way back in 2013 when I |
| 1:22.4 | said, I want to get 100 rejection letters. In 2015, I did a hashtag Post-It Daily project on Instagram. In 2017, I |
| 1:31.8 | decided on January 4th to experiment with no drinking for a year. And if you have been around for a while, |
| 1:40.8 | you know that that turned into, as of this January 4th, seven years of sobriety. |
| 1:48.0 | I did a year of truth talks on Instagram in 2018. |
| 1:52.0 | 2022, I did a year of no where I stayed off social media for a year. |
| 1:55.9 | I did not buy any new clothing. |
| 1:58.0 | No skincare products. |
| 2:00.7 | I got rid of so many newsletter subscriptions. I did not do |
| 2:05.6 | anything out of obligation. It was just a big, fat year of no. And then towards the end of my |
| 2:11.6 | year of no, I started thinking about what next? What do, how do you follow up a year of no? And Cardiffo was so interesting for me |
| 2:21.4 | that I've talked about here before in my year of no was that I slowed down so much. I was |
| 2:31.0 | tired. I rested. I got really quiet. I did a lot of healing. And that looked so different than what I thought it would look like at the beginning of the year because at the beginning of the year I thought I'm going to have so much creative energy for things that are not social media. But once I stopped all the things, my body was like, it's time to power down |
| 2:55.2 | for a little while. And it was great. Sorry for my singing. It was exactly what I needed. And |
| 3:03.7 | when things look different than what we think they will, it can be really jarring, right? |
| 3:09.3 | But we know that one of the five pillars of radical self-belief is acceptance. |
