Hello and welcome to another episode of my time capsule from Edinburgh.

My name's Mike Fenton-Stevens, and my time capsule is, as it's always been, the podcast where people tell me five things from their life that

they wish they had in a time capsule, four things that they cherish, and one thing they'd like

to bury and forget. And my very special guest in this episode is the poet Elvis McGonigal.

Elvis, who describes himself as a stand-up poet, comedian and broadcaster,

armchair revolutionary and walking shortbread tin,

scribbles satirical verse whilst drinking malt whiskey and listening to Johnny Cash.

Apparently, two series of sitcom Elvis McGonicle takes a look on The Bright Side have been broadcast on BBC Radio 4,

where you'll know him from his regular appearances,

as well as when he pops up occasionally on the television.

Elvis is the 2006 World Poetry Slam Champion,

the Compaer of the Blue Suede Sporan Club,

and performs at literary and music festivals, comedy and cabaret clubs,

pubs and dodgy dives up and down the country country and abroad, including appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Edinburgh International Book Festival, Glastonbury Festival, it was the Poetum Residence in 2007, Glasgow, Lester and Reading Comedy Festivals, Latitude WOMAD, Camp Vestival, Tolpudal Martyrs Festival,

Ways With Words Festival, Albra, Ledbury, Stanzer, Nottingham and British poetry festivals.

Quite a lot of festivals, in fact, and many international literary festivals.

He's back at the Edinburgh Festival now, with his new show, Gin and Catatonic at the Gilded Balloon,

so do go and see him if you get a chance.

He also gigs with his band The Resurrectors, an unholy marriage of radical stand-up poetry

and Caledonian punkabilly rock and roll.

In addition to his live shows, Elvis runs poetry and performance workshops for adults of all ages.

In 2015, Elvis made the Hot 100 for the List magazine's annual rundown of Scotland's hottest cultural contributors.
