Summary

Feedback — both giving and receiving it — is such an integral part of life. These are often the pivotal moments that define our futures. So why do so many of us suck at feedback… and how do we get better? Therese Huston, a cognitive scientist at Seattle University, literally wrote the book on feedback. “Let’s Talk” blends research with personal stories that share how to say what needs to be said in a way that people hear what they need to hear. And remote work makes things more complicated with a new set of etiquette that we haven’t mastered yet! So, let’s learn to make the most of feedback moments so that we can do our best work and lift others up as well. We also talk about: The difference in digital feedback The negativity bias and how to combat it when giving feedback The nuances between different communication methods How we wrap up our identity in our work Why we dread giving and receiving feedback Handling feedback during short-term relationships Creating a culture of feedback How to best integrate feedback in your life Find more to love at almost30.com! This was one that we want, it was like a selfish one where we wanted to bring Taree's

Huston on just because we have a lot to learn from her. We've learned a lot from her and especially

as entrepreneurs and bosses. And even when I was in the work of the corporate world, when I was

1:02.5

managing people or being managed so much of her information has is just so relevant and helpful.

I am so excited to apply what I've learned to the team and really to my life. Yeah, when we first

1:15.7

started the business and first started hiring the team, I just realized how valuable it would have

1:20.9

been if I was in more of like corporate settings previously because I do think that

1:26.7

there is a candor and a cadence to feedback that I really had no idea about. I was in an

1:34.6

industry where like there was immediate feedback of like, nope, you didn't get the job, but like

1:39.6

no more feedback. Yes. So I actually was not really familiar with what that would look like

1:45.6

in running a business and it was kind of awkward for me for a long time because I I don't know,

1:51.6

I just kind of felt guilty giving direct real feedback because I was worried about how they were

going to take it. But obviously I've learned that this is how you create a really strong robust

2:03.8

like growth-minded team. Yeah. So this episode is really all about giving good feedback. How women

and men interact differently in the workplace and how we can be better teammates bosses,
