The coroner recorded an open verdict. Officially, an open verdict affirms the occurrence

of a suspicious death, but doesn't specify the cause.

But sometimes, it's important to look at what wasn't recorded.

It wasn't a death by natural causes. It wasn't an accident. It is a suspicious death.

An Essex police continued to investigate this case as a rape and a murder.

And there have been arrests in this case. In fact, there have been seven.

Why do you stay silent? Stuart died on the 31st of March 2001, and three months later, Michael Barrymore, Justin Merritt and Jonathan Kenny were arrested by Essex Police.

Barrymore was arrested over suspected drugs offences, including suspicion of possession and supply of a Class B drug,

possession of a Class A drug, and allowing premises to be used for the taking of a Class B drug.

But Justin Merritt and Jonathan Kenny were arrested on suspicion of murder.

They were questioned and both were later released without charge.

Barry Moore received a caution in relation to the drugs offences.
