Summary
I had the pleasure of interviewing Scotti and Ernie Lechuga in Little Rock, AR on my way to ride a portion of the AR High Country Route. Brannon Pack who works for Fayetteville recommended them as a great interview to get a feel for what I had to look forward to. I went into this interview completely blind to their background as professional road cyclist. I was planning to talk to them about their FKT they set on the High Country Route and get some pointers, but as their story unfolded I found myself with an endless list of questions and an increasing interest in knowing all about what lead them to bikepacking. What unfolds is one of my personal favorite episodes. They are equally impressive on and off the bikes and I truly enjoyed the opportunity to get to know them better. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did!
You can learn more about them and their coaching business at LeborneCoaching.com. Also, check out the video documenting their ARHCR FKT.

| 0:05.0 | And on this episode, I got an opportunity to talk to Scotty and Ernie La Chuga. But before we get to that show, I kind of need to set the stage for this episode a little bit. |
| 0:18.0 | Hopefully you listen to the last episode and all of this will make a little bit |
| 0:22.1 | more sense. But if you didn't, here's a quick recap. Fayetteville is going to be hosting the |
| 0:28.4 | start and finish line of the Arkansas High Country Race. And they hired me to promote and cover |
| 0:35.4 | the race this year. And part of that was that they invited me up to come and ride a part of the route. |
| 0:41.5 | So we started there in Fayetteville, Arkansas. |
| 0:44.4 | And that's what we talked about on the last episode. |
| 0:47.1 | So you might want to go check that one out. |
| 0:49.3 | But on the way there, Brandon Pack, who works there at Fayetteville, he said, hey, you should swing |
| 0:56.8 | by and talk to Scotty and Ernie Lachuga. |
| 1:00.6 | They're there in Little Rock and they have the FKT or the fastest known time for the Arkansas |
| 1:07.7 | High Country Race that they set as a couple. So he's like, yeah, you know, |
| 1:12.7 | you should go talk to them on the way and get a feel for what you're in for and, |
| 1:18.3 | and just, you know, chat with them about the route and stuff. That's how I went into this |
| 1:23.7 | episode. I didn't do any research on them. I should have. I was just busy getting, |
| 1:30.6 | you know, work and family and all that stuff situated before I went on a trip as one does. |
| 1:36.3 | And I kind of just went into this episode blind and was really blindsided by their story. |
| 1:44.1 | I'm not going to, you know, get in the whole |
| 1:46.1 | thing right now, but they have an amazing story. They're both ex-pro racers turned bikepackers, |
| 1:53.3 | and it's, I was just floored. I had so many questions. I had no idea what I was walking into, |
| 2:00.2 | but, you know, on some level, |
