Summary

Do you ever feel like no matter how hard you try, life just keeps happening to you and nothing seems to go as planned? That was me for years, fully living in the hot mess identity. Luggage would get lost, technology would fail, people would show up late, and somehow none of it was ever my fault. I believed the world dictated my day, my energy, and my results, and I spent more time reacting to circumstances than leading my life.

In this episode, I share thirteen specific shifts that helped me shed the hot mess identity and consistently show up as a reliable, resourceful, and prepared coach and business owner. This includes honoring my word no matter the circumstances, planning for other people’s potential messiness, building buffer time into every part of my day, and stopping the habit of shaming myself or letting others shame me. By implementing these changes, I was able to move from chaos to calm, create space to execute at my best, and fully own my actions and results.

0:26.9

has taken me this long to talk about this topic. What? So many of us struggle with this.

0:32.9

I think especially us women tend to like fall into this. I don't know. I've just not talked to a lot of men

0:39.1

who tell me that they think they're a hot mess. Maybe that's happening. But I do feel like it's

0:43.4

pretty chronic for us women. So I feel like we need to talk about it. Here's what I want to do.

0:48.7

I want to share this not necessarily as the expert of all experts in which I've done lots and

0:53.3

lots and lots of research.

0:55.3

I just want to tell you guys my story, my experience, how it showed up for me, how I worked

1:01.1

through it and whatever pieces of it for you that are applicable, great. Perfect. And if this

1:08.5

was triggering in any way, that's okay. I'm not calling you out. I promise.

1:13.0

This is not me telling you you need to get your stuff together from one ex-hot messy to another.

1:19.7

That's not what this is about. This is, if you know that I used to struggle with this identity

1:25.1

and you currently struggle and you want to get out of it,

1:29.1

I'm just going to tell you my story and how I got out of it and let this be an inspiration to you

1:33.7

or a path for you, an example for you. But by no means this is like not meant to be a call out

1:41.0

episode. And anyway, so if you are like, oh my God, Cece's talking directly to me, it's not because of something I've seen or some judgment I have. I was just coaching someone recently in 2K about this. And I commented on her post, and then I kind of thought about it. And I was like, how have I never done an episode on this? So that's where we are.

2:02.2

So the hot mess identity, first of all, if you don't have hot mess identity, good for you.

2:08.0

This episode still might be helpful in other ways because I'm going to talk about different ways it shows up.

2:12.4

And you may not refer to yourself as a hot mess, but you still might be doing some of these things.
