The Maple Leafs have clinched a playoff birth, will their postseason woes continue?

The Toronto Maple Leafs have been hotter than a solar flare and a volcano lately,

and dropped the capitals seven to three last night like a bad student in English class.

Austin Matthews is a star that's continuing to shine, and the Leafs have four guys with over

70 points total when you add Mariner, Tavares, and Nylander with the WizKid Matthews.

You always want to be playing your best hockey leading into the playoffs in which Toronto's

already clinched a birth, but don't be so fast to pull the trigger on the Maple Leafs bringing

home the cup just yet. This is a franchise that struggles mightily in the postseason,

and seems to have followed like a cheap tent in the rain storm once it comes ring-winning time.

How bad have the postseason struggles been for Toronto? Here's some of the recent numbers,

and don't forget they were part of the original six. They are tied for the longest cup appearance

slash wind drought at 53 years. Since 2012, they've missed the playoffs five times,

and the other five years where they've made it, they've gotten bounced out in the first round

more times than an ugly person in a beauty pageant. To make matters worse, they are a staggering

0-8 in winning advanced games in the playoffs since 2013. This team has had momentum, talent,

and drive heading into the playoffs many times like we see right now, but I can't trust a team

that shrinks in big moments. Hell, I don't know who shrinks better in big moments. The Leafs

or Rick Moranis. This may be the year they pull themselves out of the playoffs rut,

but I won't be doubling down on them to bring home any hardware anytime soon.
