Welcome to Talking Scripture. I'm Mike.

0:26.1

And I'm Bryce.

0:31.4

And today we are going to be in section 135 and 136 of the doctrine covenants.

0:35.4

This is the announcement of the martyrdom of the prophet Joseph Smith.

0:39.0

So we're going to do a little bit of history that led up to that moment and then we're just going to praise to the man who communed with Jehovah. And the church has

0:44.9

asked us to cover 136 as well, which is way forward in winter quarter. So we're going to go from

0:50.2

the martyrdom of Joseph Smith in June of 44, And then we're going to jump to the winner of

0:56.1

136. Brigham Young is in winter quarters, and the Lord is helping Brigham organize the saints for the Trek West.

1:47.1

Interestingly enough, by Christmas of 46, we have about 700 homes. So by the end of 1846,

1:54.2

we've established a place to stop over. Yeah. And so much of Section 136 that you'll read this week is the Lord instructing

2:04.1

saints who come through to provide crops that they won't harvest. So you plant the crops because

2:12.0

someone else coming through will harvest those crops. And there's kind of that spirit of we're all in this together.
