Today we'll be telling the story of Our Lady of Chansdahova, whose feast is celebrated on August 26th.

Our Lady of Chantahava, also known as the Black Madonna,

people and her shrine is the most popular shrine in Poland. The painting has a

really interesting history and many legends surrounding it. It has been in Poland for over 600

years now, but some of the legends trace it back to Jesus' time. Legend says that

after Jesus' assumption into heaven, the Virgin Mary went to live with St Luke, the Apostle.

While she told him about Jesus' early years, he painted her portrait.

In fact, the legend says that the wood he painted on was a table top made by St Joseph and Jesus himself in their family workshop.

The painting was then found by St Helena, who took it from Jerusalem to Constantinople and gave it to her son Constantine the Great in the year 326.

The painting changed hands during royal weddings and eventually made its way into the possession of the King of Poland and Hungary.
