Summary

What do you do if you have been drinking every day and want to stop? Is it safe to take away something your body is used to having all the time? Who should consult with a doctor before quitting? In today’s episode, Annie Grace talks about how people who stop their daily drinking routine can experience physical effects from nothing at all to a few withdrawal symptoms to hospitalization and sometimes even death.

Let me ask you a question. What is better than change? Lasting change, of course. Annie Grace and I'm answering readers questions, is it safe to just stop drinking if I've been

0:33.1

drinking every day? It totally depends, but I would always err on the

0:39.0

sorry of caution. So I was drinking every day and I just stopped drinking and I was fine.

0:45.2

And I know many, many, many, many, many people like that who actually are completely fine.

0:51.6

And they maybe have a fever draw symptoms, but it's not a big deal. But equally I know that

0:56.2

there was, are people who can be hospitalized if they just stop drinking on a dime or people who

1:04.8

can even kill you. So I think it is very, very, very important to err on this side of caution.

1:10.1

And if you have any fear or any concern that like if you haven't had a break from drinking,

1:15.4

like when I had stopped drinking, I had stopped drinking during my pregnancies. There was time.

1:19.6

So when I was sick and I wasn't drinking for a few days, so I knew I could go a few days without

1:23.3

drinking. And so I wasn't really concerned about that. It didn't even really cross my mind.

1:27.8

I wasn't worried about it. If you're worried about it, if you're asking the question,

1:31.6

I would absolutely talk to your doctor 100%. It's not something to mess around with. It's just

1:36.0

not worth it. Like there's no hero award for trying to do something like this, but I would really

1:40.8

make sure that you're not also making it an excuse not to try to stop. So I think that if you have

1:46.2

the desire and you want to make a change, like do that and do the work of talking to your doctor

1:51.2

and keeping yourself safe through whatever change you want to make. So don't let it be an excuse,

1:57.2

like, oh, well, I can't do it because then I'm going to be in trouble physically or which would

2:01.7

draw symptoms. So don't let it become an excuse, but also just err on the side of caution, really

2:06.4

look out for yourself, really, really be somebody who takes care of themselves first. A lot,
