Welcome to Talkingcripture.org. Welcome to Talking Scripture. I'm Mike. And I'm Bryce. And today we're going to be in section 84 of the Doctrine Convenants. It's a big section. Just to give you a little bit of background. The last section, they were in Missouri. And Joseph's going to travel back up to Ohio,

but they're going to be way late because on the way back, Bishop Newell-K. Whitney breaks his leg.

There's a coach accident, and so they end up staying sometime in Greenville, Indiana, until the bishop could travel.

And so after staying at this end for a month,

Joseph is actually poisoned one night, but through a priest of blessing recovers. And over time,

Bishop Whitney's ready to go and to come back to Ohio. And so they arrive in

Kirtland in late June of 1832.

And so to give you an idea of how long they were gone, Joseph was gone from his family

for about three months at this time.

And so this revelation is going to come in the fall in September of 1832.

And in March of 1832, Joseph and Sydney are brutally assaulted and mobbed. Horrible things happen.

And during the course of this, Sydney Rigdon has major head injuries that he suffers.

And as a result of this, Sydney, in July of 1832, starts to express things that are lacking hope. He even says

to individuals that there's no need to pray. We might as well just give up. He kind of has this

depressed mood. And so Joseph has to work through that with him and relieves him of his license

to preach. But then over the course of time, Sydney has reinstated.
