back for more. This is the China History Podcast. I'm Lhasla Montgomery and we're still in the Ming Dynasty.

In our last episode, we got as far as the end of the Yongle era.

The Yongle Emperor, also known as Ming Chengzu. He passed from the scene in 1424.

So as we begin today, we're merely 56 years into a 276 year dynasty, 220 more years to go.

So let's get started.

The Yongle Emperor died on his fifth campaign in the north against the Mongols. His eldest son became

the new emperor and he immediately put the gabash on Jonghe's extravagantly expensive voyages.

The problem with this emperor was that he wasn't faded to live long.

He became emperor in September 1424 and died of a heart attack, May 29, 1425. Not exactly William Henry Harrison, but it didn't even last a year.

This is too bad because in the short time that this Hong-shi Emperor sat on the throne, he undid a lot of the bad ideas of his father,

the Yongle emperor, and instituted a whole bunch of new and needed reforms.
