0:08.4	We're going to look at the third emperor of the Ming Dynasty today.
0:12.1	If you recall in last episode,
0:14.0	the founder of the Ming Dynasty
0:16.0	carelessly created a succession crisis
0:20.0	when he passed away in 1398.
0:22.0	His son, the Crown prince, died in 1392. And then rather than pick the next
0:28.1	eldest son, Judei, the Hongu Emperor selected the eldest son of the deceased crown prince,
0:35.0	and once the Hongwu emperor passes from the scene,
0:38.0	this grandson took over as the new emperor.
0:42.0	The eldest living son of the deceased Hongwu emperor,
0:45.0	Chu Di, he was none too pleased with this decision.
0:50.0	And as we will see, he ends up usurping the throne after a four-year civil war.
0:55.0	So last episode, we looked at the Ming founder,
0:58.0	Ju Yuan-Chang, the Hong-Wu Emperor.
1:01.0	And this time, we look at his son, Judei, who reigned for a good 22 years from 1402 to 1424.
1:08.8	He's known as both the Yongle Emperor and also as the Changzu Emperor, or Ming Changzu.
1:16.4	We'll refer to him in this episode as the Yongle Emperor.
1:20.1	It's quite a story these few years when the grandson, now reigning as the Genuan Emperor, played this deadly game with his uncle, Judei.
1:28.0	The Genuan Emperor wasn't bad or anything.
