I could see an apologist for the cultural moment lean into expressive individualism and say

What we ought to do is look within ourselves and find the desires that are there.

The only way that we can really be an authentic version of our own selves is if we express

I love that because we should look at our desires from a biblical rubric versus a cultural

As an example, if you're walking down the street and you have this desire to commit murder,

No, we have a cultural rubric that says don't commit murder.

That's a feeling and expression that you should not be your authentic self for.

So essentially all we're saying is like, look, the culture has a rubric for you on how

to express yourself, but it's broken.

The scriptures give us a better understanding of how to express ourselves through who

God created us to be, which often means to deny certain feelings that we might have
