Jeff Weaver who grew up in the tiny Vermont town near the Canadian border became a household

name at least in politics in 2016 as a campaign manager for his old friend and client Bernie

Sanders. He's written a book about that experience called How Bernie One. Inside the revolution

that's taken back our country and where we go from here and where where he goes from here and

where Bernie Sanders goes from here was one of the things we talked about when he came by the

Institute of Politics last week and sat down with me. Jeff Weaver welcome here and welcome to

the Institute of Politics. It's good to see you again. You come from as probably as close to being

in Canada as one can come. Tell me about St. Albans Vermont.

Jeff Weaver Yeah, so St. Alms Vermont, well, it's changed a lot since I was a kid. It was a conservative

democratic area. Had more cows than people. I went to high school with substantial number of people

who spoke French at home as their first language. Jeff And you're your folks who were

Jeff Weaver French Canadian. Jeff Absolutely. My mother's made a name as champagne.

Jeff Oh, it's all right. Jeff Exactly. Jeff That's good. Jeff That's not French Canadian.

Jeff Weaver So yeah, you know, in those days the border was, you know, we talk about open borders

these days when I grew up the border with Quebec was basically an open border. You could drive

back and forth, being waved through. Jeff So there was a lot of a lot more interaction across the

border than there than there is now certainly. Jeff And you're dad ran a pet shop there? Jeff

Jeff I dad had a pet shop. He did a bunch of jobs, but his final job in life was having a pet store

in St. Alms, which he loved very much. He also, he worked for many years at a utility as a late

night. The person you called when your power went out, he would dispatch the trucks for folks.
