Hi everybody, Tom Woods here is episode 26005 of the Tom Wood Show, and I'm joined by Ed Faser, one of the smartest people I know. And as you folks know, given that some of you've listened to 26004 episodes of the Tom Wood Show, I know a lot of smart people. But Ed just knocks my socks off in terms of his coverage of so many

issues of importance. He knows so much about so much. He's not a mile wide and an inch deep.

He's a mile wide and a mile deep. A really, really impressive guy, professor of philosophy,

author most recently of Immortal Souls, a treatise on human nature, as well as numerous

other books. He has a book on Aquinas. He has a book on Philosophy of Mind. He has a book five

proofs of the existence of God. And if you go into this thinking, oh, well, you know, I've read a few

articles by such and such guy. I can take all Ed Faser on. No, you can't. I'm just letting you know that right now.

But I want to talk to Ed in particular, and then we'll just see where the conversation goes,

about this whole mess a few weeks ago involving Vice President J.D. Vance, who made what seemed to the rest of us

to be a fairly innocuous statement to the effect that we don't

owe the same obligations to complete strangers that we do to people who have one or another

kind of connection to us. That's the way everybody lives his life. And if you don't live your life

that way, we mock you for it. And yet people treated him like they acted like

they never heard this before. What kind of novelty out of the middle of nowhere was this?

I watched all Ed Faser who, you know, in these situations, he's the guy out there trying to tell

everybody, look, here's the common sense answer, people. Come on. And not only

is it the common sense answer, it's the consistent answer of Christian social thought for 2,000

years, in case anybody thinks that's relevant. So, Ed, welcome to the show.
