Hey, welcome to a very special episode of Cal's weekend review.

I had a chance to sit down this week with Arkansas Representative Bruce

Westerman to talk about an interesting new bill that would be a game changer for habitat conservation.

If the name Westerman sounds familiar, there's a reason.

Representative Westerman is the chairman of the Natural Resources Committee for the U.S. House of Representatives.

If you care about national hunting and fishing policy, this is a group of lawmakers you should be familiar with.

The Natural Resources Committee handles many of the bills

that deal with outdoor recreation, habitat conservation, and many of the other things that affect

the critters we love to hunt and the places they live.

As the chairman of the committee, Representative Westerman controls when they meet, how often they meet,

and the bills they consider.

One of his priorities this year is a new bill dubbed

America's Wildlife Habitat Conservation Act. I'll let Representative

Westerman explain the details but here's the bottom line this bill would authorize 300 million dollars every year to state governments to allow them to better enact their wildlife action plans.

These plans are targeted at species under threat of being listed as endangered, but the

habitat work that would be accomplished would benefit all wildlife.
