Summary

Do people in other countries where wine is a cultural thing have the problems with alcohol that we do here in the US? Is it just recently that our society seems to revere the wine stops, the wine clubs, the wine collectors, and if so, why is that? In today’s podcast, Annie sheds some light on the cultural differences and similarities between the US and Europe, and she shares some frightening statistics.

Hi, this is Annie Grace. I'm the author of this naked mind and I'm answering readers' questions and

0:32.7

stay up questions from seasons. I have a question for you that maybe you could address as part of a

0:37.3

readers' question sometime. Do you think that people in other countries where wine is such a cultural

0:42.5

thing, i.e. Italy, Spain, France, etc., have the problems with alcohol that we do here in the US?

0:48.8

Another question is it just recently that our society seems to revere the wine stops,

0:53.1

the wine clubs, the wine collectors, and if so, why is that? So first of all, I think it's

0:59.2

really common and very, very common myth. In fact, it's such a common myth that it's prevalent

1:04.1

all over the internet if you sort of look it up that when you have or introduce to drinking from

1:10.3

a young age, you have sips of wine at the dinner table or at lunch and it's just very everywhere

1:15.6

than you drink very moderately and it isn't a problem. That is complete BS, basically.

1:23.5

And so all sorts of studies, and we don't like to believe that certainly, especially the people

1:27.5

who are perpetrating that, but all sorts of studies have just confirmed that that's not true.

1:32.8

So I want to get into the science, but for some, I want to get a little bit of anecdotal experience

1:37.6

from my time in Europe and from people who were on my team when I worked in a corporate world

1:43.4

about their experiences. So I had one woman who worked for me who was French and she read my book

1:48.8

and she reported to me, she was like, wow, your book was so amazing and it was so liberating.

1:52.8

And I definitely feel the pull to drink all the time, but because it's such a part of our economy,

2:01.3

it is almost like there's just no way we can't actually drink. Like my parents,

2:09.2

when I was little, they would sit around the table and they would pour me a small glass of

2:13.2

wine with every single meal pretty much, at least a separate two. And I always didn't want it because
