Summary

In this week's episode of Monocycle, Leandra talks about her addiction to the comfort zone -- that area that prohibits us from tackling the hard or uncomfortable tasks in our day. What happens when we get caught in those black holes that prohibit us from doing the things we need to do? Like we're existing, but with 50-pound weights attached to our legs? How do we identify this addiction and ultimately, what do we do to break it? Good news! The first step is awareness. So plug in your headphones and take a listen. Hello, good morning. Good morning. Welcome back to Monocycle, a podcast by Manrepeller hosted by Leandra Medine.

0:12.0

Sorry, that's a yawn. I haven't had coffee yet, which is interesting in and of itself, right? Let's see how this episode sounds.

0:23.1

It's 7.36 a.m. on a. Thursday in May.

0:28.6

And this really weird thing happened to me this morning where I woke up at 6.59.

0:34.3

And I thought to myself, I really want to record a podcast episode.

0:39.1

And it occurred to me then that when writers say very dramatic and platitudinous things like,

0:45.5

you'll know you're a writer when all you can do before eating, breathing, sleeping is right.

0:52.5

And I was always like, I don't know about that because I really like writing.

0:56.0

I'm happy to write, but I'm definitely not trying to write before I sleep. Definitely not before I

1:01.9

eat. Like 180% not before I drink. And I don't know, it just started to make sense. And the reason

1:10.0

I'm telling you this right now is because that's kind of what happened this morning with Monocycle.

1:14.6

So that's what I'm going to do.

1:16.6

So I had a minor procedure on Sunday and was told to remain in horizontal position for 48 hours following the surgery

1:23.6

and that I needed to take it extremely easy all week. So I relayed this message to the senior

1:30.8

level employees of my company and the past week has been, for lack of a better word, pretty easy

1:36.5

on me, right? I haven't, I've been going into work for a couple of hours here and there. I've got

1:41.1

some meetings out of work. I'm of course still taking those. It's hard for me to

1:45.0

completely sign off. So I've been online, on email, on Slack, all of that stuff. But for the most

1:53.0

part, I have felt like I could breathe in a whole new way. And then yesterday I had a meeting

2:00.6

at a fancy big corporate office in midtown at around

2:05.2

3 p.m. And I literally like broke out into a sweat before I was supposed to go. I think because I haven't

2:12.3

really communicated with that many people who aren't family members in the last week or so. So I'm on my way to this meeting and I'm feeling really anxious and I'm like,
