Summary

I just finished an online retreat with Pema Chodron.

Friends Podcast 232

As you know, I love her teachings.

My biggest takeaway?

If you want to be able to allow difficult feelings in yourself then it is very helpful to first learn how to be friends first with yourself.

I'm not sure why that is so ah-ah-like after all these years, BUT, it is.

If you want to lose weight for good.

If you want to have powerful relationships with others.

If you want to help others.

It all starts with your relationship with you.

May this podcast be of benefit to you!

Enjoy the show!

Hi all my dear friends. How are you today? I have had a very interesting weekend. I'm actually doing this podcast a little late. And to be really, really honest with you, which is what I like to do, I was going to

0:37.2

run and repeat podcast this

0:40.2

week because I was doing a Pemishodran retreat online and I wasn't sure that I was going to

0:47.8

have enough time to be able to get a brand new podcast out to you. But I have to tell you what

0:53.2

happened. I just finished the

0:55.2

retreat, and I am so inspired to want to share something with you. Because one of the main things

1:01.9

that Pema shares and that Buddhist philosophy shares is that in the end, as a human being, we want to be

1:09.6

of benefit to other human beings.

1:12.4

And that is one of the things that I took away from this online retreat is that I was so

1:18.1

inspired to be able to help my own mind better and to be able to hold my own self in a better

1:27.1

light.

1:32.5

And I learned a lot about that this weekend. And I couldn't stop myself from wanting to share some of these with you today while I am as inspired as I am.

1:41.0

And to know that Pema's teachings go back thousands and thousands of years, this Buddhist

1:47.0

philosophy, these Buddhist teachings. And one of the things that she said today is that she feels

1:53.0

like she's the interpreter for Westerners on Buddhist philosophy and on the teachings that she

2:00.4

learned. And now I kind of feel like I'm the

2:03.9

interpreter of Pema, who's the interpreter of Buddhist philosophy. I'm now the interpreter to my people

2:11.3

to help them understand their minds better because everything I teach is all about learning how to manage your mind,

2:19.7

learning how to allow your own feelings to come through and to stop using food as a way

2:27.0

of not allowing those urges to come through. And it's everything that she teaches.

2:31.7

You know that especially in my last couple podcasts, I've been
