BC or thereabouts. Today we're up to the fifth and sixth centuries as we take a look at the southern and northern

dynasties, or the Nanbei Chow, that lasted from 420 to 589. This was another period of China where the country is still divided and as the

period name suggests you have one China up in the north and another in the south. This 170 year period precedes the Sui Dynasty

which unifies North and South again in 589 and sets the country up for the

magnificent Tang Dynasty that follows the Sui.
