1:08.0 | Whoever you listen to us, I would appreciate it and also I would appreciate if you do like this episode or if you like other episodes to share it with a friend, we're trying to change the world one person at a time and give you some tips on how to overcome rejection today. |
1:23.0 | So today's topic is overcoming rejection and to be successful and to get everything that we want from life, we have to deal and learn to deal with rejection. |
1:33.0 | And rejection and dealing with it is actually counterintuitive to what's actually in our genes as humans because if you think about thousands of years ago, we as humans, we needed to be around other humans and impacts to survive. |
1:46.0 | We needed to have them for safety, for food, for shelter, for everything you could possibly think of. So it's counterintuitive to go against rejection. |
1:55.0 | But nowadays, accepting rejection and being okay with it is the only thing that's holding us back from living the life of our dreams. |
2:03.0 | So a story that I actually love about rejection is a Sarah Blakely and you might not know the actual name Sarah Blakely, she's a multi billionaire and she started a company called Spanx and I was actually never even never even heard of Spanx before and I had to Google it, but it's a women's clothing company. |
2:22.0 | It's like an underwear type or something I guess I don't know, but you could probably Google and find out if you wanted to, but she's a multi billionaire from this. |
2:30.0 | And when she was young, her dad actually encouraged her and her family to fail. So every single night at the dinner table, he would ask, you know, how did you fail today? And he was not happy unless they failed in some sort of way. |
2:44.0 | His realization back then was that in order to be successful and for them to have successful lives, he needed to teach his kids to be okay with failure and to make sure they realize it's a part of life. |
2:54.0 | And she talks about it and says that this is actually the main reason why Spanx is such a successful company. You know, she would pitch this to other companies, she would pitch it to investors and she estimates that she got hundreds of knows from investors from companies of people who did not want to invest in her product. |
3:11.0 | Companies that would not accept it, but she just kept going because she knew that failure was just a normal part of life. |
3:18.0 | She was conditioned by her father to just fail as much as she possibly could. So her father made sure that she failed every single day. And because of that fact, she was okay with getting hundreds and hundreds of knows from other companies and investors and now has a multi billion dollar company in his worth billions upon billions of dollars. |
3:37.0 | So here's the interesting thing about interesting thing about rejection though, rejection if you actually think about in your mind, it's just really a myth. |
3:44.0 | Rejection really doesn't exist if you say for instance you asked somebody out to dinner at eight o'clock on Thursday and they say no, well then nothing has actually changed. |
