Hello and welcome to the Calmar You podcast. This is your host, Chloe Brotheridge. I'm a coach, a

0:08.4

hypnotologist and I'm the author of The Anxiety Solution and Brave New Girl. And this podcast is all

0:14.9

about helping you to become your calmest, happiest and most confident self. Hello, hello. Thank

0:20.7

you for listening. I hope you're having a good

0:22.8

week so far. I'm going to talk about something that could apply to a lot of different

0:31.5

situations and I'm going to use examples for the topic of public speaking, because that's something that I'm talking

0:38.7

about a lot of the moment. But any of the things that I'm going to share could apply to

0:43.8

anything and to anyone really, because we all have fears. That is part of what makes us human.

0:50.5

I remember going to a talk once, and the woman, it was Susan David, who is a psychologist, and she said,

1:10.7

they have very small amygdalas or there's not a lot of activity going on in't have a lot of, I don't know if it's that they have very small amygdala

1:12.0

or there's just not a lot of activity going on in the amygdala, but the amygdala is really dialed down

1:16.5

in psychopaths. They don't experience fear. But for the rest of us, we are going to experience fear.

1:21.4

So I wanted to talk a bit about how I reframe fear. And, yeah, using the example of public speaking, but again, it could be a fear of flying,

1:31.2

fear of driving, that's a really common one that I hear, social situations, relationships,

1:37.1

like commitment or intimacy or setting boundaries, anything like that. So even if you're not

1:43.0

someone that does public speaking or is afraid of it,

1:46.0

then you'll still get a lot from this episode. Before I get into it, I just want to mention a couple

1:51.3

of free resources I have for you on the topic of public speaking. So one is a free checklist for

1:59.0

anxiety-free public speaking. You can get that at karma-you.com forward-slash

2:04.9

speaking. I'll pop the link in the show notes for those listening on the podcast. And I also have a
