Summary

This week's episode of Monocycle tackles our theme of the month, mental health, by talking through how we determined this would-be the theme that followed last month (and stood as preface for next month! Which will require that you let your hair down and dance until your feet fall off). Leandra also talks about talking yourself down from an anxiety attack, which she's not always the best at, but trying is better than crying, right? We've all been there. Enjoy the listen. Hello! Welcome back to Monocycle, a podcast brought to you by manrepeller hosted by me, Leandra Medine.

0:08.3

I don't know if you're familiar with this, but about six months ago, we instituted a new policy

0:12.6

wherein every month is modeled after a specific theme. April's theme was get your shit together,

0:18.0

and we did a whole bunch of content on cleaning your closet

0:21.5

and like dental hygiene and like how many cashews is too many cashews. So the theme for may

0:30.7

is mental health because sometimes doing the physical thing is like a really nice way to lead into forcing your mental objects into

0:41.5

high gear. Can you force something into high gear? Anyway, it's mental health month. Well, so we could do

0:50.8

a number of things. It's mental health month on manorpeller the way in which we

0:54.4

determine our months is we have a weekly meeting on monday mornings where we talk about pitches for

1:00.3

the week so timely pieces of content that could go up in addition to the stuff that we've already

1:05.6

planned from the previous month and in those meetings what will will often happen is these big overarching ideas will

1:12.7

come up and we'll think, you know, that's a great idea for a larger theme. And maybe that could be

1:17.4

our August theme or our September theme, our October theme, whatever it is. So when we sat down

1:24.4

and thought of mental health month, we brought the whole team together and asked everyone to share some of their ideas for May specific content, but also mental

1:32.7

health specific content.

1:34.2

So if Get Your Shit Together Month felt a little bit more like the gym for your body month,

1:39.7

this is kind of the gym for your brain month.

1:41.9

So some of the stories you're going to see come up this month are like how to force yourself

1:46.1

to put your phone away.

1:47.3

How to better compliment people and do it more frequently.

1:51.3

A sort of like series of self-help book reviews.

1:56.3

Like how to feel Zen in New York City traffic, how to talk yourself down from an anxiety attack.
