Summary

Have you ever asked the question, “How in the world did we get here?” Whether the circumstances are good or bad, often the answer is little by little. We’re in our final episode in the book of Nehemiah and its end is perplexing (but oddly hopeful). The people of Judah aren’t in the best spot, especially given their previous accomplishments under Nehemiah. But despite its awkward ending we’ll discover a hopeful future to which all this frustration was pointing!  This is a really practical week as we explore four areas that the people of Israel let slide—areas we want to pay attention to in our own lives. And, ultimately, we’ll be looking at the hope of a new heart and new way of life that Jesus lives to bring us.  For the full show notes visit kellyminter.com/podcast

Yeah. Access more. Welcome to the Cultivate Podcast. I am Kelly Minter, and you are joining me at my friend's kitchen table because it's really loud at my house right next door. There's a lot of construction going on. So I have moved my little operation to her kitchen table. And I hope that you will feel comfortable in pulling up a chair and looking at

1:13.3

the very last bit of the book of Nehemiah. We are in episode six of our, well, no, we are actually

1:21.7

in episode 21, but it is the sixth episode of the Nehemiah collection of podcasts.

1:28.8

And this is where we end this series.

1:31.6

So if you have missed any of that, I would encourage you to go back to episode 16, start

1:38.0

at the beginning and make your way with us through this book of Nehemiah.

1:43.0

It is incredibly practical. And I will say, and I don't say

1:47.2

this lightly, this book has probably affected my actual life, my daily life, more than just

1:56.2

about any book in the Bible. There is just so much here that I can relate to, so much that has challenged

2:03.7

me, that has changed me. And these last few episodes are actually not going to be any different.

2:10.4

I will give you a little bit of a spoiler alert, though, today. This last episode is a little bit

2:15.6

tricky, and I'd kind of forgotten about it because

2:17.5

the book of Nehemiah does not end, like, on a Hollywood note. Okay, this is not how you would

2:25.1

expect the story to end where everything kind of wraps up, and there is just this nice

2:31.3

bow put on the end of our story. In fact, it is quite the opposite.

2:36.2

Things are kind of breaking down.
