Hello and welcome to Business 300. My name is Philip Kulenshov and this is 300

seconds about business. We're all a busy people, so I have five minutes or less to get my point across.

2.0. Episode 200 of Business 300. We're almost there. Stay with me. Whether or not we're gardeners, most of us have had a chance to see how plants grow and behave. We've seen plants

flourish and plants die, and we can make some observations and applications.

It'd be laughable if on seeing dying leaves on a plant, our response was to try to fix the leaf.

Dipping the leaf in water or sprinkling nutrients on it would be an absurd thing to do.

Even though the leaf is not healthy, giving it our attention doesn't solve anything.

The problem is always rooted, pun intended, in the roots.

When it comes to a plant, most people know that the roots are responsible for the health

of the fruit.

But when we see problems with the front line of an organization, most people flock to sprinkle

nutrients on the leaves.

Like painting the black leaves green in an attempt to fix the dying plant,

simply telling the operators to work harder does not necessarily solve anything. Whether in a plant

or in an organization, the roots are responsible for the quality of the fruit. If there's a problem

with the tree, we must look to the roots if you want to fix it. The burden of responsibility

for your organization to be

fruitful is with the core leadership. Application of this principle is twofold. First thing to note is that

the role of management is primarily to equip the front line to succeed at their job. If success

for the professional looks like completing all products on time by outputting a certain amount of

production at a specific level of quality in a sustainable way, aka the fruit,

then it is the manager's responsibility to ensure the professional succeeds at that task.
