You're saying, this is a bad country.

And first of all, it's bad history, but it completely undermines any attachment one

naturally has to your home.

It's one thing to say it's imperfect.

That's fine.

We're all imperfect, and we should teach that.

But, I mean, to teach that there's nothing there that's redeemable.

And I don't like that on top of everything else.

It's very unchristian. There's

something in the whole Christian tradition about redemption. And so you're saying this country is

Americans will take to pontoon boats and backyard barbecues,

and of course the great American tradition of blowing things up in the sky.

Actually, the Chinese invented that, but we have appropriated it

and mass produced it with great American efficiency, and I'm very proud of that, actually.

But what are we celebrating on the 4th of July?

Our nation, of course. The Declaration of Independence, yes. But what does the Declaration actually say?

These days, politicians on both sides claim the Founding Fathers would have been on their side. Or some even say the Founders' opinions don't matter.
