Well, we're standing in an alley behind some apartment buildings that are located on Baudry

Avenue in Chinatown.

First stop on our investigation, the scene of the crime.

To really understand the official version of what happened that night in 1996,

we need to go to the alley where it happened.

The lead prosecutor on the case, Deputy District Attorney Craig Humme agreed to give us a tour.

The alley pretty much looks the same as it did back then. There are a few

surveillance cameras that weren't here at the time. Today Craig Humm is the head

deputy district attorney of major crimes in Los Angeles. He's a big deal. The Nor case came right at the beginning of

what's been a storied career and Hum knows the scene of this crime very well.

There was also much more graffiti in the alley from the Oriental Lazy Boys Gang,

which seems to either been painted over or otherwise removed.

It's a long alley.

A football field, maybe a football field and a half.

It's paved.

It looks like a street running north-south up a hill.

And as it heads north-south,

it is a gradual incline, and then at the very end there's a steeper incline to the top of the street.

The alley is lined with apartment buildings.

Most are a few stories tall, with a dozen or more units.

Some windows face the shimmering downtown skyscrapers.

Many have a direct view of the sloped alley.
