Six Hunters participated in this unnoggeral hunt, all of whom successfully harvested a mature bowl, thanks to Kyle Mosier for sending this one in.

Elk lived throughout Virginia prior to the arrival of European settlers, but the species was over harvested in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Colonel G. Tully harvested the last known elk in 1855.

The state attempted a reintroduction in the early decades of the 20th century, but poor habitat, poor release locations, and over harvest meant that only two elk herds remained by 1926.
