I met David Miliband eight years ago when he was the Foreign Minister of Great Britain,

and it was my assumption that he would someday be the Prime Minister of Great Britain.

He lost a very unusual struggle for party leadership with his brother Ed, and left Britain,

and went to New York to become the director of the International Rescue Committee, an organization

formed by Albert Einstein, to advocate for refugees around the world.

And in that role, he is now in the center of a humanitarian crisis, as millions of refugees

are routed from their home by violence, famine, persecution.

He's also the author of a new book, Rescue, Refugees, and the Political Crisis of Our Time.

I sat down with David Miliband the other day at the University of Chicago, where he came

to speak about his mission.

It's very nice to be on this side of the microphone, rather than just listening to your

podcasts in the gym.

Well, I'm glad you're doing that.

I do.
