Any list of the great veteran political writers in this country would have to include

Karen Tummeltier, the Washington Post, through the years at the LA Times Time Magazine, and

now the Post.

She's been one of the most insightful political reporters I've read, partly because she actually

goes out in reports, goes out in talks to voters, and tries to get a pulse of the country,

not from polling, but from her interactions with people.

Karen has been a fellow at the Institute of Politics at the University of Chicago this

quarter, and we had a chance to sit down and talk about her career in journalism about

Donald Trump and what that's meant for political coverage, and about her upcoming book on

Nancy Reagan.
