Hello and welcome to Business 300.

My name is Philip Kulenshov and this is 300 seconds about business.

We're all a busy people, so I have five minutes or less to get my point across.

This entire podcast project is about talking less and doing more.

So let's get to it.

Some of us like to speak grand about the future we envisioned for ourselves in our business.

Sure, there's a place for talk.

But the proportion of talk to actions needs to have the right balance, and too many

people have it backwards. There are 80% talk, 20% action, too many words, too little deeds.

Maybe we impress others with our aspirations and words. Maybe we're only self-impressed. Maybe

nobody's impressed, and we just prefer to spend our time living in a future hypothetical

instead of doing their work to get there.

Dreaming about the future is exciting.

Putting the work to get there? Not so much.

One of the reasons why some people are prone to look for meaning in their aspirations,

where one day their efforts will be paid off and they will have arrived,

is because they get to ignore the truth that what they're currently doing doesn't actually align with that future they dream of.

Their actions today aren't consistent with their desire for the future.

So instead of developing the self-control and discipline necessary to achieve their goals,

they revert to only big talk.

It really is much easier to talk big and work small.

And you get to pretend like you're hiding your lack of diligent effort behind your big words.
