Summary

It's a waste of a life to only focus on the potential future goodness. A short part of our life is enjoying the fruits of our labor. Most of it is the actual labor – the process of getting there. The mistakes we make, the clutter we clean up, the stories we live through are all opportunities for us to laugh and have fun as we work hard to build something great.

It's exhausting and frustrating to build a great business. We have to get into the details and intricacies of the product designs and production processes. It's gruesome. I know. But like Jacob wrestling with God until he blessed him - even through pain and weariness - we wrestle with the problem until it gives us the answer. We don't let go.

0:11.9	seconds about business. We're all a busy people, so I have five minutes or less to get my point across.

0:26.9	Business owners want to make their business better.
0:33.0	Even those who are complacent about it would not reject it if their business would improve without their own work or investment.
0:38.0	What they're not always excited about is the work that's demanded in order to drive improvement.
0:42.7	Making your business better and striving towards a standard of excellence sounds great.
0:43.9	All ideals do.
0:46.5	But then begins the process of getting there.
0:48.0	Bring on the frustrations.
0:49.4	Unleash the setbacks.
0:55.1	The process for growth, innovation, and improvement is not as smooth as we'd like. Our young and naive annual goals came with a delusional sense of potential accomplishment.
1:00.6	When we start out on our business journey, we boast when putting on the armor.
1:04.6	But we quickly learned that what we thought we'd accomplished the first year has taken much
1:08.3	longer to build.
1:09.8	We're still at it, and can't boast about taking the armor off yet.
1:12.6	The qualifications we thought we had have been tested to the limit and then some.
1:17.6	Our inexperience was revealed. The problems in our business were worse than we thought.
1:22.6	It's when we started to strive towards our naive goals that many of the issues were brought to the forefront.
1:28.0	We were overwhelmed. So to get our head above the water and stay there, we cultivated complacency
1:33.2	to curb our aspirations. Business owners who are complacent about improving their business
1:38.1	usually didn't start there. They were once young and ambitious, but reality put them in check.
