0:24.6	weekend. It was averted at the very last minute, mainly because Kevin McCarthy decided that he was
0:29.9	going to move forward with what we call a clean continuing resolution. It takes about 45 days
0:33.8	into the future, takes us into November. It does not include funding for the Ukraine war.
0:39.3	The Senate then quickly passed that. And then it was signed by President Biden. This happened
0:43.2	about three hours before a shutdown was set to take effect. The Democrats obviously did not want
0:47.6	to have some sort of deep abiding fight over Ukraine funding in the continuing resolution.
0:51.3	They didn't want to go to the American people and say the reason we're having a government shutdown right now is because we need X billion dollars more for the
0:58.3	Ukraine war. Again, the sentiment against the American funding of the Ukraine war is growing and
1:03.4	growing mainly because the United States has never presented a plan for any sort of off ramp.
1:07.0	If you actually want the American people to back a plan, you have to have a plan, but the Biden administration has no plan. Democrats didn't want to have the debate publicly.
1:14.1	Now, the reason that this deal ended up getting done in the way that it got done is because
1:18.8	there was a wing of the Republican Party that actually scuttled a significantly better deal.
