Summary

What does the Bible say about homosexuality? There are many who claim that our modern translations of the Bible have inaccurate renderings of the original language in texts that discuss homosexuality. On this episode of The Debrief podcast, Pastor Matt Brown breaks down what the Bible says about homosexuality - specifically focusing on the question of translation issues. What do the original languages of these texts - Hebrew and Greek- that speak on homosexuality actually mean?

Hi guys, thank you so much for joining me for a special episode of the debrief. Today, it's

0:04.6

just going to be me. And what I want to do today is I want to dive deeply into some of the

0:10.4

Hebrew words in regards to homosexuality, specifically homosexual intercourse. So I want to differentiate

0:16.9

between the feelings of a person who identifies as gay, a person who identifies as homosexual,

0:22.6

and the actual words that are talked about that we're going to discuss today. Because I'm a

0:26.6

heterosexual male. That's who I am. I am not currently, presently, at least as I know,

0:32.2

sinning as a heterosexual male. I'm just not. But with my thoughts, Jesus says, with my eyes, with my hands, there are things

0:39.3

that I can do. Jesus says, looking at a woman with lust, pursuing her with lust, a woman

0:45.1

that's not my wife, or that is specifically someone else's wife. And there are actions that I can do

0:50.8

as a heterosexual male that are sin. And so I really want to differentiate that

0:55.2

because I think in the past, what we've done is we've, when I say we, I mean, the historical

0:59.6

churches, we've shamed people for feelings maybe that they didn't ask for, that they didn't

1:03.6

want, that they don't understand. And what I would say about all of this in terms of

1:07.6

sexuality is sexuality is thrust upon all of us, whether you're gay or straight, all of a sudden you get these feelings, you don't want them, you don't

1:14.9

like them, you don't understand them, and it's hard for all of us to figure this out.

1:18.9

And I'm going to talk more about this in a couple weeks.

1:21.8

So when I talk about this in the sermon, be surprised and act like you never heard of it,

1:27.1

but most people don't realize

1:28.2

what the story of Peter Pan really is. And like I love Walt Disney, Disneyland, but Walt Disney,

1:34.7

what he does is he literally destroys old stories that speak real truths. And what Walt Disney does

1:40.6

for us is he softens them and he changes them so that they're more palatable to young

1:45.7

audiences, specifically children. But the problem is many of these stories are written for adults
