  • Catherine and Sarah share some big releases coming this fall (lightning round style).
  • Catherine’s theme is “unpredictability” — half her picks are repeat authors and the other half simply caught her eye.
  • Sarah’s choices feature 6 returning authors and overall are leaning more literary.
  • A few shorter books from Sarah’s picks: under 300 pages.
  • Sarah has already read and rated two of her picks!

Welcome to Sarah's Bookshelves Live.

I'm your host, Sarah Dickinson.

0:13.8

Join me every other week as we get real and sometimes a bit snarky about books and reading.

0:19.3

Sometimes I'm joined by one of my co-hosts, Catherine,

0:22.0

from Gilmer Guide to Books, or Susie from Novel Visits. Other times, I talk with a bookish guest,

0:28.4

including authors and publishing insiders who give us a behind-the-scenes peek into different

0:33.4

corners of the book world. But always, we're bringing you great book recommendations in every

0:39.3

single episode. Let's get rolling. Welcome to the 2024 fall book preview. As usual for these

0:46.3

quarterly previews, Catherine is joining me. Hi, Catherine. Hello. Today, we are highlighting the

0:52.3

books we are excited about that are coming out from mid-August through the end of 2024.

0:58.1

1:06.3

Because there just weren't that many that we were personally excited about.

1:12.4

1:25.0

All right. We are going to do something a little bit different today. Before we get to our own

1:30.0

preview picks, we thought we would quickly let y'all know about some big time releases coming

1:35.1

this fall that we are not going to talk about today. Because those are books that we know

1:39.5

lots of people will be excited about, but they're also not necessarily books that you or I personally

1:45.4

would be running to pick up. Right. So I'll just kind of lightning round run through some of these

1:51.8

and you add on any that I might have missed. Okay. So Jody Pico has a new novel. It's called By

1:58.9

Any Other Name. Kate Atkinson has a new novel called Death at the Sign of the Rook. Matt Haig has a new novel called The Life Impossible. He wrote The Midnight Library, which was really popular.

2:10.9

Leon Moriarty is coming with Here One Moment, which I actually am considering trying. Really?
