Summary

For Ep. 173, Susie Boutry (@NovelVisits) joins me as we circle back to one of our favorite topics — niching down our reading into micro genres! In this special Circle Back, we revisit some previously shared micro genres from our two past Micro Genres We Love episodes and introduce two additional micro genres from a Patreon bonus episode not yet heard on the big show! We give examples that define each micro genre for us and share new books we’ve read that fit into these niches. Plus, we share books for that DIDN’T work for us. This episode is full of over 100 books for you to add to your TBR!

Welcome to Sarah's Bookshelves Live.

I'm your host, Sarah Dickinson.

0:13.8

Join me every other week as we get real and sometimes a bit snarky about books and reading.

0:19.3

Sometimes I'm joined by one of my co-hosts, Catherine,

0:22.0

from Gilmer Guide to Books, or Susie from Novel Visits. Other times, I talk with a bookish guest,

0:28.4

including authors and publishing insiders who give us a behind-the-scenes peek into different

0:33.4

corners of the book world. But always, we're bringing you great book recommendations in every

0:39.2

single episode. Let's get rolling. Welcome to our first microgenres circle back episode. Y'all

0:46.3

know circling back is a thing we do at Sarah's Bookshelves Live. We do it for the quarterly

0:50.8

preview episodes, and we did it recently for the year 2018 in books.

0:55.9

For the past two years, Susie and I have done an episode called Microgenres We Love,

1:01.6

and today we're going to circle back to those episodes for the first time. Welcome, Susie.

1:06.6

Hi, sir. It's nice to be back. This is going to be fun. It is going to be fun, especially

1:10.5

since this is the first time we've done an episode like this. So as is always the case with our inaugural episodes, we don't quite know how it's going to go. If y'all are new to our microgenres episodes, let me just tell you what a microgenre is in our view. So microgenres, as we think of them, are very

1:30.5

niche types of books that we can generally count on to work for us, types that can't be found

1:36.2

in any of your traditional genre categories. Like they're not technically a genre. They're a subset

1:43.1

of a subset of a genre. So in our circleback episode

1:46.5

today, we're going to revisit microgenres that we shared in our past two episodes in 2022 and

1:52.7

23 and see how they're going for us now. Here's how it's going to work. We're going to update you on

1:58.8

some of the microgenres that we still love

2:01.7

that we shared in our two previous episodes. We'll share new books that we've read since those

2:07.5

episodes aired that fall into those microgenres. And we'll also share some books that we've read
