This is Annie Grace and you're listening to this naked mind podcast where without

0:15.2

judgment, pain or rules, we explore the role of alcohol in our lives and culture.

Hi friends, it's Annie Grace, author of this naked mind and I am answering readers questions.

0:34.6

This question I have put a lot of thought into because I did not want to

0:41.5

answer it without a significant amount of thought because of how important it is.

0:45.5

Equally, I think this answer will probably be iterative because I can't claim to know

0:50.8

everything I certainly don't. So this is kind of my first stab but I love people's comments

0:56.4

and suggestions, things you've done, things you've worked and together iterate on this because

1:02.0

this is such an important conversation. So the question today is from Carly and she said,

1:08.0

I would love some suggestions on how to talk to our kids about drinking and how brainwashed

1:13.6

1:21.9

campaign in the 80s, Nancy Reagan's campaign just say no, had practically no effect and if we

1:33.5

it didn't take into consideration the reality of what kids are dealing with and going through today

1:38.2

and it certainly didn't leave room for questions. And so in my response to this answer,

1:44.4

I just kind of started brainstorming a list of do's and don'ts and like I said, I think this will

1:49.8

be iterative by no means do I think it's conclusive or complete but I think it's a place to start this

1:54.8

conversation and I obviously thought about it in terms of how I will be speaking to my kids about

2:00.2

alcohol. They are four and seven so I think they're a little bit young but as soon as probably nine

2:05.2

or ten I will absolutely be talking to them about alcohol. So here's my list. Number one is do it,

2:12.0

definitely do it, don't put it off and I think that's the most important thing. Any conversation you

2:16.9

have is better than no conversation. Do be realistic except that we live in this culture and explore
